Genetic Dissection of Litter-size Quantitative Trait Loci Located on Murine Chromosome 7

A significant quantitative trait locus (QTL) for murine litter size, Lsq1, was previously identified on chromosome 7 in the female backcross progeny of ♀(♀C57BL/6J × ♂RR/Sgn) ♂RR/Sgn (BRR mice). In present study, QTL mapping analysis performed same ♀(♀RR/Sgn ♂C57BL/6J) (RBR mice), and Lsq1 again. As size is significantly larger BRR mice than that RBR mice, potential effect grandparental cross direction indicated. combined data from showed split into two loci: Lsq1-1 Lsq1-2. The RR/Sgn strain-derived allele associated with reduced at both loci. Lsq1-2 exhibited effects number stillbirths but not increased Therefore, suggest depends smaller a consequence stillbirths. are suggested to be novel size.
